Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Lancia rocked the Rally world with the Delta… An understated supercar, it was all wheel drive, turbo-charged and lightened. 0-60 came up in 6.6 seconds, and speed topped out at 133 for the 8v version, and then 5.5 seconds and 137mph for the later 16v versions and Evos.
For 6 seasons, from 1987 through 1992, Lancia dominated Group A with these cars. And while they were incredibly cool, they were also all but invisible when they were wearing steel gray instead of the Martini livery…
Here in the US, they are almost impossible to find. They were never imported in any sort of quantity, but a few made their way across the Atlantic. Every once in a while one shows up on eBay. Most of the ones that do show up came through Canada… where a few were imported.
I know that I would certainly love to drive one of the first 4 door rally-bred super-cars.
