At a time when most station wagons were made with a large quantity of wood, Willys (Jeep) came out with the first all steel wagon.  Interestingly enough, they called in the All Steel Wagon.  But that wasn’t the only first…

The Willys All Steel Wagon is widely regarded as the first SUV.

It was in production from 1946 to 1963.  And it was “powered” by engines ranging from the 134ci Go-Devil (60 amazing horsepower) to the 230ci Tornado (140 astounding horsepower).   And the Tornado has it’s own first… it was the first American built overhead cam engine.  It was also the only engine that was designed, built and exclusively used in Jeeps in North America.
